MINUTES
COMMUNITY ROOM
UPPER TERRACE
6054 YUCCA STREET , LOS ANGELES, CA
ATTENDEES: DAVID SCHLESSINGER, SCOTT LARSON, GEORGE CROSSWHITE, PARNAZ GOBADY, JACQUELINE W. MC NARY
All items for discussion and possible action
- Establish name of Historic Preservation and Zoning Committee: A motion was made to name the committee the Historic Preservation and Zoning Committee. Those present felt this accurately represented the scope of the committee. This was seconded and unanimously approved. MOTION PASSED.
- Survey of Canyon-Western stakeholders and letter responding to survey (includes 3. Historic District Survey). Those present discussed options for 1) properly informing the Canyon Western community about what an HPOZ (historic district) is and how the community participates to shape the district, 2) how best to survey the community to determine if there is a desire to support a historic district (HPOZ), and, 3) what the timing of each shall be. After discussion, the committee recommended a Town Hall in January to inform the community. They also felt that the structure of the survey should provide some recommended direction as to how open or restrictive the district would be. A draft of the survey will be reviewed at the next meeting.
- Update and Possible Letter re Continued Non-compliance Fence at 1924 Canyon Drive. The committee was updated on the status of the fence - a noncompliant, solid wood, unpainted fence that is from 5' to 7' in height. The committee also was reminded that the Zoning Administrator rejected a variance request for the owners in August 2005. A motion was made and seconded to have the HUNC President send a letter (draft attached) to the City respectfully demanding enforcement of the decision in August 2005. MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY.
- New Fence on Hollyridge Loop. The owners of the property in the Hollyridge Loop requested direction and assistance on the citation given them to comply with current zoning requirements. As the property sits on a "loop", they requested how to research and respond to the citation. The committee informed the owner to request a variance and to obtain further detail as to the specifics of the fence in a unique "loop" environment. The owner stated they will request variance with the City for security reasons. The fence is composed of a approx. 2' retaining wall and up to 6' of open wrought iron without hedge.
- Adjournment.
